Transportation Barriers: Things to Consider

  • Can a person with a disability find a place to easily park and exit their car?
  • If the person with a disability does not drive is there a means of public transportation nearby?

Transportation Barriers: Examples
Here are some examples of situations in which people with varying disabilities may encounter transportation barriers.

  • Your community's wheelchair-accessible bus only comes every 45 minutes. You miss it and have to wait on the side of the road for the next one.

Transportation Barriers: Removal Examples
Here are some examples of situations in which people with disabilities did not encounter transportation barriers.

  • Your city's public transportation adds a stop to a nearby route. Now you are able to apply & work at the businesses near the new stop.
  • You live on the public transportation bus line. The bus runs every 30 minutes and drops you off only one block away from your employer.
