Support Barriers: Things to Consider

  • Does a person with a disability have access to family, friends, or caretakers who can provide support, whether physical, financial, or emotional?
  • Is a person with a disability treated as a member of the work team and does he/she have friendly, open access with coworkers and other mentors?

Support Barriers: Examples
Here are some examples of situations in which people with varying disabilities may encounter support barriers.

  • Your family guardian moves out of town and you lose your family support net. You are left alone to fend for yourself.

Here are some examples of situations in which people with disabilities did not encounter support barriers.

  • You have been assigned a helpful mentor who includes you in activities at work.
